Chennai, Nov 29: Police have arrested a 37-year-old daily wage worker on Friday for allegedly issuing a fake bomb threat to Anna Arivalayam, the headquarters of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party at Teynampet here.
The Chennai city police control room had received a call shortly after 8pm on Thursday in which the anonymous caller claimed that he had planted a bomb in the Anna Arivalayam campus that houses Kalaingar TV and other offices and that it would go off soon. Senior police officials along with personnel of Tamil Nadu Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and sniffer dog unit conducted a thorough check in the campus and did not recover any explosive materials.
The bomb threat turned out to be a hoax, police said. The police team traced the caller by his mobile phone number and arrested Ganesan at SP Garden in T.Nagar in the city. The accused in an inebriated condition made the hoax bomb threat out of frustration, police said.
DMK President M.K.Stalin was in Mumbai to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the coalition government headed by Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray, when the party headquarters received the hoax bomb threat. (UNI)
