Polytech student shot dead by friend

Chennai, Nov 5: In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old polytechnic student was shot dead by his friend at the latter's house at Venkadamangalam near suburban Vandalur in neighbouring Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu, Tuesday.

The student, Mukesh, a third year IT student of Balaji Polytechnic at Ratinamangalam near Vandalur, sustained bullet injuries on his head and was rushed to a private hospital, from where he was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in the city, where he died. Police said as the college was all set to reopen tomorrow after a ten-day study holiday, Mukesh went to meet his friend Vijay at his residence.

No one knew what transpired between them as a gunshot was heard by the locals. Vijay was said to have shot him in the forehead from a point blank range and the bullet has pierced the head of Mukesh, sources said.

Acting on information, police rushed to the spot and found Vijay in a pool of blood and shifted him to a private hospital, from where he was later referred to the RGGGH where he was declared dead.

Soon after the incident, Vijay fled the scene, but his brother Udaya, who was said to be present on the spot, was detained by Thazhambur police, who have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab Vijay. Soucres said Udaya told the police that he was not present on the spot when the shooting took place.

It was also not known how Vijay could get access to a gun. The incident has sent shock waves in the locality. (UNI)
