Rajini thanks Centre for golden jubilee icon award


Southern film super star Rajini Kanth has thanked the Government of India for conferring the prestigious Icon of the Golden Jubilee award by Information Minister Prakash Javadakar. The award, akin to Dadasaheb Phalke award given for lifetime achievement, but lower in pecking order, will be presented to Rajini at the eight-day long international film festival being held in Goa from Nov 20.

Rajini, who made his debut in director K Balachandar’s Tamil film Apoorva Ragangal in 1 975, has acted in 167 films in Tamil , Kannada, Telugu and Hindi and is hailed as super star .

In his tweet, Rajini said:” I thank the government of India for this prestigious honour bestowed upon me on the golden jubilee of the International film festival of India “

Javadakar said Rajini is being honoured for his “outstanding contribution” to Indian cinema in the last several decades.

He said: In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, during the past several decades, I am happy to announce that the award for the ICON OF GOLDEN JUBILEE OF #IFFI2019 is being conferred on cine star Shri S Rajnikant.

Rajini has won several words, the most prestigious being Padma Vibhushan, the highest civilian award after Bharat Rathna.

He received the Tamil Nadu Government’s Kalaimamani award in 1984 and the M. G. R. Award in 1989. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan (2000) and the Padma Vibhushan (2016) by the Government of India.
