J Deepa, a niece of late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, has filed a suit in the Madras High Court to stall production of a biopic on the film star turned politician.
Daughter of Jayalalitha’s late brother Jayakumar, Deepa has said she is her legal heir and the proposed web series and film on Jayalalitha will infringe on their privacy.
She has said the court should restrain producers A L Vijay, Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Gautham Vasudev Menon from going ahead without getting the prior permission from Jayalalitha’s legal heirs.
The suit is likely to come up for hearing next week.
In her petition, Deepa has said A L Vijay and Vishnu Vardhan Induri had announced they planned to make a biography with Kangana Raut in the lead role in Hindi version and Ramya Krishnan in Tamil, titled “Jaya” and ‘’Thalaivi” respectively.
She also alleged that director Vasudeva Menon was planning a web series on Jayalalitha. She prayed that the producers should not go ahead with the films without getting her approval for the script and screen play.
Kangana Raut has said she is excited about doing the lead role. She has said the film depicts Jaya’s journey from her debut film Vennira Aadai in 1965, her emergence as a leading heroine, taking over the leadership of the AIADMK after founder M G R’s death and becoming Chief Minister 1991. Going beyond that would make it a political film, she has said.
