Tiruchirapalli, Oct 29 : The mortal remains of two-year-old boy, Sujith Wilson, retrieved from an unused borewell at Nadukattupatti village in Tiruchirapalli district of Tamil Nadu, after four days was buried on Tuesday.
The highly decomposed body was recovered from the bore well at around 4.30 am by the personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Tamil Nadu Fire Rescue Services Department and sent to the government hospital at Manapparai for post-mortem.
As the news of death of Sujith Wilson was spread, his native Nadukattupatti village plunged into mourning. After the autopsy, the body was taken directly to the Fathima Nagar cemetery at Avarampattipudur near his house. A pall of gloom descended the burial grounds, as hundreds of people bid a tearful adieu to the toddler. The burial ceremony started at 8am and culminated at 8.30am.
CPI state secretary R Mutharasan, popular Tamil actor Vimal among many others paid their homage at the graveyard.
While the boy was laid to rest, the district administration closed the bore well with concrete pour. Earlier, Tamil Nadu Ministers C Vijayabaskar, Vellamandi N Natarajan and S Valarmathi paid homage to the body at Manapparai government hospital. Sujith accidentally fell into the bore well hole in a corn field adjacent to his house while playing at 5.30 am on Friday evening.
He was initially trapped at a depth of 26 feet, when the rescue operations were launched by the personnel of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue services department with the assistance of police and local people. Later, it was announced that the boy slipped down to 70 feet and again to 88 feet.
Multiple efforts by various technical teams and government agencies using different types of methods failed to pull out the boy.
After making hectic efforts for more than 80 hours, the rescue teams retrieved the toddler’s body. Political leaders across the political spectrum at the national and state level had prayed for the child’s rescue. UNI
