Chennai, Oct 27 : Even as various government agencies were involved
in the herculean task of rescuing the two-year-old boy Sujith, who was
trapped in a borewell at Nadukattupatti village near Manapparai in Trichy
for the last 48 hours, people from across the country, including former
Congress President Rahul Gandhi prayed for the safety of the boy.
Apart from Rahul Gandhi, actor Rajinikanth and actor-politician and Makkal
Needhi Maiam Founder Kamal Haasan and cricketer Harbhajan Singh prayed
for the safe rescue of the toddlers.
Special prayers were held in several temples, mosques, churches and other
places of worship for the second consecutive day for safe rescue of Sujith,
whose condition has touched an emotional chord across the country ever
since he fell into the borewell on Friday evening.
Rahul Gandhi tweeted ''While the nation celebrates Deepavali, in Tamil Nadu
a race against time is underway to save baby Surjeeth, who has been trapped
in a borewell since Friday.''
''I pray that he will be rescued and reunited with his distraught parents at the
earliest'', he added.
Talking to reporters here, Rajinikanth said was praying for Sujith to be rescued
He also urged the government to take precautionary steps on the issue of deep
borewells and also said the parents should also be more careful about their children.
Kamal Haasan too took to twitter and said the rescue effort should be a success.
Stating that kids falling into borewells in the State has become routine, Kamal said
the government should treat those digging borewells and not closing it as a crime
and levy hefty fine on them.
Veteran cricketer Harbhajan tweeted in Tamil : ''as a father, I can feel the pain and
agony of Sujith's parents and the child should come alive''.
''There is valour in your mother's milk..you will definitely come alive'', he said, adding,
''Surjit’s rescue will be a real Diwali for all.''
Film actors Vimal, lyricist Vairamuthu also prayed for the safety of Sujith.(UNI)
