Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami and Leader of the Opposition M K Stalin on Wednesday extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping for their second informal summit on October 11 and 12.

The Chief Minister said it was a historical fact that China and Tamil Nadu shared trade and cultural ties centuries ago, even as Chinese emissary Yuan Suang had visited the Pallavas, whose port city was Mamallapuram. He said trade ties with China had flourished during the Chola rule also.
Palaniswami recalled that Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai had visited Kuzhippanthandalam near Mamallapuram in 1956.
Leader of the Opposition M K Stain has also welcomed Modi for making Mamallapuram as the venue for the summit as it has historical connection with China.
