Chennai, Oct 1: Uniform working hours in the Public Sector Banks in Tamil Nadu came into effect from today.
The new working hours is 10am to 4pm. The Uniform Working hours was introduced in with the decision taken at the 159th meeting of State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) on September 26, which was chaired by Mr Karnam Sekar, MD and CEO of Indian Overseas Bank and Chairman of SLBC-Tamil Nadu.
Indian Banks’ Association vide its letter dated August six, addressed to the Chief Executives of PSBs communicated on the Implementation of Uniform Banking Hours in all Public Sector Banks (PSBs) on PAN India basis as a part of ease reforms and suggested three time sets for customer banking hours viz., 9am to 3pm, 10am to 4pm and 11am to 5pm.
The PSBs in all the districts in Tamil Nadu decided to adopt the timing of 10am to 4pm. Lead District Managers forwarded recommendations to SLBC after co-ordination with DLCCs. SLBC in its 159th meeting approved the Timing Set of 10am to 4pm as the uniform customer banking hours for branches of all public sector banks operating in Tamil Nadu.
The new timing comes into effect from today and was implemented by all branches of public sector banks in Tamil Nadu. The Private Sector Banks have also been requested to follow the same time schedule to have uniformity in banking timings, an official release here said. (UNI)
