Chennai, Sep 29 : Customs officials on Sunday seized 371 gms of gold worth Rs 14.75 lakh from an aircraft at the Anna International airport here.
A release from the office of the Commissionerate of customs said acting on information, customs officials rummaged an Indigo flight which arrived from Bangkok and found a tube like pouch concealed inside the hollow pipe of the aircraft seat.
The pouch was cut open and small gold bars of 24K purity and assorted gold jewellery of 14K and 18K purity, studded with very small diamonds and semi precious stones of low value, weighing 371 gms and valued at Rs 14.75 lakh were found concealed in it.
The passenger, under whose seat it was recovered, was questioned but he disowned the same. The gold and jewellery was seized under the Customs Act 1962 as unclaimed. Further Investigation is under progress.(UNI)
