12 killed, 14 injured in three mishaps in TN

Chennai, Sep 13 : Twelve people were killed and 14 others were injured in three different road accidents in Tamil Nadu since last night.
While five people were killed and eight others were injured in a multiple collision involving two cars and a two-wheeler near Vadipatti in Madurai last night, four people, including two women, were crushed to the death and two others sustained serious injuries when the car fell from a road over bridge in Villuppuram district on Friday morning, reports received at the police headquarters here said.
In the third accident, three people from Kolar district in Karnataka were killed and four others were injured in Ariyalur district today, the reports said.
A report from Madurai said, four of the deceased hailed from Malappuram district in Kerala.
Police said a four-member family from Andhra Pradesh were on their way to temple town of Palani from Madurai in a SUV, when it hit a two-wheeler which entered the four-way Madurai-Dindigul
highway at Vadipatti, killing its pillion rider.
The SUV then jumped over the median and collided with another car, in which six members of a family were proceeding to Erwadi from Malappuram in Kerala coming in the opposite lane.
A total of five people were killed and eight injured in this multiple collision.
The deceased were identified as pillion S.Malaichamy (45) of Madurai, Nijamudeen (28), his relatives K.Kilar (42), Majnubath (40), Sahana (11) of Mallappuram district.
The injured were admitted to the government hospitals at Madurai and Vadipatti.
A report from Villuppuram said four members of a family, including two women, died on the spot and two others were seriously injured when the car in which they were proceeding to Salem from Gingee in Triuvannamaalai district, fell off a bridge at Prithvimangalam village near Kallakurichi today.
The deceased were identified as S Ezhumalai (50), E Jayakodi (48), K Chitra (42) and M Balaji (40), all hailing from Ammakulam near Gingee.
The victims were on their way to Salem when the mishap occurred after the driver lost control due
to a tyre burst and the SUV fell off from the bridge.
A report from Ariyalur said, three people were killed and four others seriously injured when the
SUV in which they were travelling collided with a sand-laden truck near Jayankondam on the Chennai-Kumbakonam highway.
The deceased were identified as Anandakumar (30), his kin Nagendran (28) and their friend Anil Kumar (26), all hailing from Masthi village in Kolar district of Karnataka.
The deceased and injured were returning to their native place after a pilgrimage to Thirunallar in Puducherry, when the mishap occurred.
The injured were rushed to the government medical college hospital at Thanjavur.
