Chennai, Sep 7: Leaders of various political parties in Tamil Nadu hailed the efforts of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for coming very close to landing on the Moon's South Polar region and inspiring a billion people to look towards the outer space through Chandrayaan-2 mission.
DMK President M K Stalin tweeted 'Thank you Team @ISRO for inspiring a billion people to look towards outer space and place our faith in the power of science and technology. We are proud of our scientists for taking us farther than before', he said.
There was a sense of disappointment among the ISRO scientists after it was announced that Vikram Lander descent was as planned and normal performance was observed upto an altitude of 2.1 km. 'Subsequently communication from lander to the ground stations was lost. Data is being analyzed', ISRO said.
PMK Founder Dr S Ramadoss patted the ISRO scientists and said the present setback after ISRO lost touch with Chandrayaan-2 lander Vikram, minutes before it was to land near the south pole of the Moon, as temporary.
'There is no space agency in the world which has not faced setbacks. Chandrayaan-2's effort is brilliant. ISRO scientists should be appreciated', he added.
The ISRO scientists, who have lost the milestone of landing in the Lunar South Polar region by just 2.1 km, will soon taste success, he said and greeted them for creating awareness among the common people on Lunar mission.
'The Nation will stand by the scientists in reaching the moon', Dr Ramadoss said. (UNI)
