Madras High Court Chief Justice Vijaya K Tahilramani has resigned in protest against her transfer to Meghalaya High Court. She sent her resignation letter to President Ram Nath Kovind with a copy to Chief Justice of Ranjan Gogoi on Friday night shortly giving a farewell dinner to her fellow judges of the Madras High Court, reports quoting official sources have said.
Her decision to quit followed the rejection by the Supreme Court collegium of her request to reconsider its Aug 28 decision to transfer her to Meghalaya and post its current CJ there A K Mittal as CJ of Madras High Court.
Rejecting her request,the collegium said it took the decision after taking into consideration all relevant factors and ‘ in the interest of better administration of justice.
“On reconsideration, the collegium is of the considered view that it is not possible to accede to her request," said the resolution dated Sept 3 which was uploaded on the Supreme Court's website.
"The collegium, accordingly, reiterates its recommendation dated August 28, 2019 for transfer of Justice V K Tahilramani to Meghalaya High Court," it said.
