Agency News

Rameswaram, Sep 2 : Sri Lanka Navy on Sunday rescued four Indian fishermen aboard a distressed fishing trawler in the seas off Katchatheevu Islet.

The Sri Lanka Navy in its official website said a naval craft belonging to the Northern Naval Command had spotted the Indian trawler which was adrift, while patrolling in northern seas and subsequently rendered technical assistance needed to the distressed boat.

The Navy also provided food and drink to refresh the fishermen, who were fatigued from hours of stay in rough seas. The fishing trawler and its crew were stranded in the high seas as a result of rough sea condition.

The fishermen were handed over to Jaffna fisheries Inspector for onward action.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu fisheries officials in Ramanathapuram said the fishermen rescued by Sri Lanka Navy belonged to Mandapam coastal village near Rameswaram here.(UNI)
