An army jawan from Jayakondan in Ariyalur district, who was on duty in the volatile Jammu and Kashmir since the scrapping of Art 370 ,has been found dead. As his body was in a highly decomposed state, his family members were flown to Kashmir and they identified the dead as Veeramani(32).
According to his family, Veeramani had been with the army for the past ten years and he was recently posted in the Kashmir valley after the abrogation of Art 370.
As all communication lines in Jammu and Kashmir like Internet and telephone remain suspended, there is no way of knowing how and when he died .
His family said they suspected he might have died in an encounter with terrorists.
Ariyalur district superintendent of police Mohandas has told media that as Veeramani’s body was in a highly decomposed state, it would not be airlifted. Therefore, it was being brought in an ambulance to Delhi. From there, arrangement would be made to bring it to his home town. “It will take three days”, he said.
The family came to know about Veeramani’s death when two army officers visited his house in Jayakondan on Thursday to enquire if he had returned.
