Stalin condemns manner of arrest of Chidambaram

The DMK president M K Stalin on Thursday condemned the manner in which CBI arrested former Finance Minister P Chidambaram with officials scaling the wall of his house in Delhi as he was a fugitive from justice.

In a statement and later talking to reporters in Chennai, Stalin reiterated that it was a politically motivated case as P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram had appeared before the CBI and cooperated with the investigation into the INX Media case .

Stalin also pointed out that vendetta was evident from the way the CBI swung into action hours after the Delhi High Court rejected his pre-arrest bail and the Supreme Court listed it for hearing on Friday. Local Congressmen held protests outside the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee office and  in Coimbatore and other cities conedemning the arrest.

Trinamool Congress leader and WestBengal Chief Miniter Mamtaa Banerjee described as “depressing” the manner which the CBI arrested Chidambaram who was a senior politician and former Home Minister and Finance Minster. She said she did not want to comment on the observations made by the Delhi High Court while Chidambaram‘s anticipatory bail application.
