Chennai, Aug 17 : Customs officials in Chennai airport on Saturday seized 520 gms of gold worth Rs 18.8 lakh from a woman passenger, who arrived from Colombo in Sri Lanka by a Spicejet flight.
A release from the office of the commissioner of Customs said the passenger Alageswary (41), hailing from Kandy, was intercepted by the customs officials at the exit of the arrival hall on suspicion of carrying gold. On being asked if she had anything to declare she gave evasive replies and appeared to be nervous.
During her personal search, five gold chains of 22 k purity, totally weighing 520 grams, worth Rs.18.8 lakh were concealed in her inner garments and same were seized under the provisions of Customs Act 1962. Further Investigation is under progress.(UNI)
