Chennai, Aug 14: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday flagged off 500 new buses, purchased at a cost of Rs 154.24 crores for various Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations.
At a function held at the State Secretariat, Mr Palaniswami formally flagged off seven buses in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Ministers and officials. He also inspected the various new facilities installed in the buses for the benefit of public.
An official release here said to address the transport needs of the public, 235 out of 500 new buses were given to the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), 118 for State Express Transport Corporation, 18 for Villuppuram division, 60 for Salem division, 16 for Coimbatore division, 25 for Kumbakonam division and 14 each for Madurai and Tirunelveli Transport Corporations.
The release said these eight transport corporations were addressing the transport needs of public, benefitting 1.74 crore passengers not only from from Tamil Nadu, but also from Puducherry and neighbouring states of Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. (UNI)
