Mettur, Aug 13 : Claiming that the State government had initiated appropriate relief and rescue operations on time in the flood-hit Nilgris district, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday slammed DMK President and Opposition leader MK Stalin for making false statements without verifying facts.
“Mr Stalin is unaware of the ground reality and is making statements without checking news,” Palaniswami told the media after releasing water from the Stanley reservoir for irrigation here.
He said Revenue Minister R.B.Udayakumar and the Commissioner of Revenue Administration visited the Nilgiris and supervised the rescue and relief operations.
Deputy Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam would be also visiting the Nilgiris within the day and a meeting would be held in Chennai on Wednesday to take stock of the situation.
The State Government had also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
The way the government handled Cyclone Gaja and carried out necessary rescue and relief work would be done in the Nilgiris as well.
It may be recalled that Stalin visited the rain-affected areas in Nilgiris on Monday and said the Ministers had undertaken ' namesake' inspection , adding that the government had not taken any preventive measures to tackle the impact of rain and floods.
Coming down heavily on senior Congress leader P.Chidambaram for his remarks that the AIADMK would not oppose even if Tamil Nadu was made a Union Territory, Palaniswami said, ''Mr Chidambaram has done no good for the State and he is just a ‘burden’ on this earth.''(UNI)
