Chennai, Aug 8: Counting of votes polled during the August five elections to Vellore Parliamentary constituency would be taken up tomorrow.
Tight security arrangements were made at the counting centre in Vellore with the deployment of central forces to guard the strong rooms where the EVMs were kept, official sources said on Thursday.
An estimated 72 per cent of the total 18.85 lakh electorate exercised their franchise in the polls, which was earlier scheduled for April 18 but, rescinded due to seizure of large sums of money.
The fate of 28 candidates, including New Justice Party (NJP) founder AC Shanmugham of the ruling AIADMK-led Front and Kathir Anand of the Opposition DMK-alliance. were sealed in EVMs during the polling held on Monday.
Kathir Anand is the son of DMK Treasurer Duraimurugan. The Lok Sabha seat consists of six Assembly segments that included Vellore, Anaikattu, Kilvaithinankuppam, Gudiyattam, Vaniyambadi and Ambur.
The DMK-led Front swept the Lok Sabha polls winning 37 of the 38 seats and 13 of the 22 Assembly seats, while the AIADMK won one LS seat and nine Assembly seats, that ensured its stability. (UNI)
