Rajalakshmi Parthsarathy, renowned educationist and founder of the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan chain of schools in Chennai, died on Tuesday, following a cardiac arrest. She was 93.
Popularly known as Mrs YGP as her husband YG Parathasarathy was a veteran playwright and founder of United Amateur Artistes and character actor in offbeat movies, Rashmi in which penname she used to write film reviews carved her niche for herself by founding the PSBS in 1958 which over the years grew to be a school of excellence.
She was an MA and MEd and got the Padma Shri for her contribution to education.
Her son Y G Mahendran started as a comedian in UAA plays before foraying into cinema. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and veteran artiste Sowcar Janaki had also acted UAA plays in the 1960s.
