Madurai, Jul 31: Senior Congress leader P.Chidambaram on Wednesday said “AIADMK stand on Triple Talaq bill in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday is riddle'.
The AIADMK members were not present in the house when there was a voting to pass the bill in the Upper House, he tweeted.
AIADMK leader (A.Navaneethakrishnan) in his address in the Rajya Sabha stated that the parliament has ‘no legislative competence’ to entertain the triple talaq bill. The members of the house commended his (AIADMK leader) address, Mr.Chidambaram said.
It may be recalled that all 11 AIADMK members walked out from the Rajya Sabha and abstained from voting on Tuesday, as a mark of protest against the Triple Talaq bill.
Earlier, the AIADMK’s lone Lok Sabha member P.Raveendranath Kumar, who is the son of party’s convener and Deputy Chief Minister O Paneerselvam, spoke in support of the Bill when it came up for discussion in the Lok Sabha on July 25.
‘This amendment bill is commitment of the Narendra Modi government to give special power to women in society,’ he stated.
The AIADMK conflicting stands over the Bill in the two Houses have evoked strong criticisms from the opposition.
DMK MP Kanimozhi said, "It is a shame that the AIADMK walked out to facilitate the passing of the triple talaq bill in Rajya Sabha.’ (UNI)
