Kerala jewellery heist: Gang nabbed in Salem


The Salem Police on Monday four men from Maharashtra and recovered from it 14 kg  gold and Rs 13 lakh  cash stolen from a jewel shop in Pathanamthitta . The fifth member of the gang is believed to have escaped after the heist.

Acting on a tipoff from the Kerala police, the Salem police intercepted a Maharashtra registered car and nabbed the gang of youths form Mahatrashtra.

According to police and K Suresh, owner of the shop in Pathanamthitta , the heist was carried out by a Marathi boy Akshay recently hired. He alerted his friends in Maharashtra that the owner would go on leave on weekends and the shop would be in charge of another employee.

On his tipoff, the gang members came to Thiruvananthapuram by car and camped for one week before striking  on Sunday evening.

They overpowered the loyal employee Santosh,  looted the  gold and cash and escaped to Tamil Nadu.

The gang also took away the hard disc from the CCTV installed the shop to prevent identification

However, a prompt alert by the Kerala police led to their arrest in Salem.

A team from Kerala has rushed to Salem to take custody of the four.
