Thanga Tamilselvan , former propaganda secretary of Anna Makkal Munnetra Kazhgam and right hand man of its chief T T V Dinakaran, on Friday joined the DMK in the presence of its president M K Stalin at Anna Arivalayam.Thanga Tamilselvan is the second among the 18 former AIADMK MLAs who were disqualified after supporting Dinakaran two years ago to join the DMK.
Earlier in March, V P Kalairajan joined the DMK.Tamilselvan revolted against DInakaran after losing the Lok Sabha election from his native Theni district to Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam’s son Raveendranath in a triangular contest. Tamilselvan came a poor third after former TNCC chief E V K Elangovan.
A few days ago, Tamil Selvan came out against Dinakaran accusing him of having acted unilaterally which has led the AMMK failing to get even a single seat not only in the Lok Sabha polls but even in the by-elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He said he opposed Dinakaran floating the AMMK, thereby leaving the fight to recapture the AIADMK to his aunt and jailed leader V K Sasikala. He also opposed Dinakaran’s decision to go in appeal against the ruling of the Madras High Court upholding the disqualification of the 18 MLAs.
The last straw for Tamilselvan was his poor performance in his own native district. He buckled under pressure from his wife that he would go further downhill if he continued in the AMMK and from Kalairajan who told him how he was being treated by Stalin after joining the DMK, he met Stalin and joined the party.Talking to reporters, he admitted that at one time he was a loyalist of Dinakaran and even Sasikala. Now that he had left that party he did not want to talk about it. He also said it was true that he was a staunch loyalist of late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and he even
vacated his Theni Assembly seat in 2016 for her.But the rivalry between DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran was history.”Stalin is a new leader, who has
been accepted by the people as shown by the thumping win of his party in the Lok Sabha polls. He has also treated leaders from the AIADMK who had joined the DMK over the years like former Minister Selva Ganapathi and others.”
Tamiselvan said:” I am convinced the people are behind him and he will come to power in Tamil Nadu and give good governance”. He said he would organize a big public meeting in Theni soon to felicitate Stalin and his supporters would also join the DMK at that function.Asked whether he expected any post from the DMK as he was propaganda secretary in the AMMK, he said:”You don’t ask for a post. It should come on its own and I am sure it will”.
