K Radhamani, DMK member of the Tamil Nadu Assembly from Vikhrawandi constituency in Villupuram district, passed away at JIPMER hospital in Puducherry on Friday after a brief illness. He was 71,
Radhamani who was associated with the DMK for over 30 years and held various positions at the district level, was close to former Minister K Ponmudi from the same district.
He was elected to the Assembly for the first time in 2016.Radhamani is the sixth legislator to die since the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Most prominent among were former Chief Ministers J Jayalalitha and M Karunanidhi.
Along with the Lok Sabha elections, by-elections were held to 22 Assembly seats that had fallen vacant caused by disqualification of pro-Dinakaran MLAs, and other four by death of sitting members. These seats have already been filled.
Now two more by-elections have fallen vacant in Vikhrawandi and in Nanguneri whose representative Vasanth Kumar has got elected to the Lok Sabha.Election to the Vellore Lok Sabha seat, countermanded, is also due.
