Virudhunagar, May 30: Two workers were charred to death in an inferno that engulfed one of the chemical mixing units of a private fireworks factory at Thulukkankurichi village near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday.
Police said the fire broke out when the deceased G.Murugesan (57) and M.Sundararaj (50) were engaged in mixing highly inflammable chemical substances for making fancy variety crackers at Naya Coronation Fireworks factory.The chemical mixing unit was razed in the blaze while two more sheds were partially damaged.
Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department personnel rushed to the factory, extinguished the fire and retrieved the bodies from the debris. Preliminary investigations revealed that friction while handling the chemicals caused the fire. Senior revenue and police officials rushed to the factory and held investigations to ascertain violation of safety norms if any by the factory management. (UNI)
