Pollachi sex scandal accused face rape charge

S.Murari

The Crime Branch CID of the Tamil Nadu police has altered the original FIR in the case relating to the Pollachi scandal involving college girls entrapped into sex to bring in the offence of rape and trafficking.

After examining at least half a dozen or more victims, investigators have slapped rape charges against the five suspects arrested so far. The investigators have reached out to other victims based on videos, photographs and other information which not only revealed that they were raped but also by whom.

Officials of the CB-CID have said the identity of the victims will be kept secret. Based on their statements and other material or digital evidence available on record, prima facie offence of rape has been established.” The entire proceedings will be conducted in camera”, the officials have said. They also have said that the police are looking out for one more person.

In the original FIR, which was registered by the Pollachi town police on Feb 24, based on a complaint lodged by a college girl, four suspects in their 20-- K. Thirunavukkarasu, N. Sabarirajan alias Rishwanth, N. Sathish, and T. Vasanthakumar, were charged with sexual harassment, robbery, violation of privacy etc. The CB-CID later arrested Mani alias Manivannan, 30.

Besides the statement of the victims and photographs/videos seized from the mobile phones of the suspects, the CB-CID is also relying on information shared by administrators of social media platforms, including Facebook and Whats App.

The State government ordered a CBI probe after the DMK demanded an enquiry into the role of Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman’s son in the scandal. The CBI is yet to respond to the State’s request. However, the CBI-CID enquiry is nearing completion.

The CB-CID is also investigating another case in which the brother of a victim who broke the lid off the scandal by lodging a police complaint was assaulted by the accused.
