Chennai, Apr 8: PMK Youth Wing leader and sitting Lok Sabha MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday welcomed the Madras High Court order quashing the land acquisition process for the Rs 10,000 crore Salem-Chennai eight-lane green corridor project and termed it as a victory for the PMK and the farmers.
In a statement here, Dr Ramadoss, who is contesting the April 18 Lok Sabha polls as part of the AIADMK-led alliance that also included the BJP, said the state government should not go on appeal against the order. He also said he would file a caveat petition in the Supreme Court to protect the interest of the farmers. Dr Anbumani, who was one of the petitoners in the case, said he was dedicating his legal victory to the farmers.
He said though the court has said that a decision on the project could be taken after eliciting the views of the farmers and getting the environmental clearance, the PMK's stand was that the project should be shelved in toto. The PMK would insist this stand both with the Central and the State governments, he added. (UNI)
