Chennai, Apr 2 : A team from Election Commission arrived here on Tuesday evening to hold discussions with the state government officials, police and political parties on the preparations made for the April 18 Lok Sabha and Assembly by polls.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora will be arriving tomorrow morning. Election Commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sunil Chandra and other officials arrived here tonight. During their visit, they would hold discussions on the poll preparedness with Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo. They would also hold discussions with representatives of all political parties, District Collectors, DGP, SPs and
other senior officials.
The visit of Mr Arora comes in the backdrop of suspense over conduct of elections for the Vellore Lok Sabha seat where a large quantities of cash were seized by the Income-Tax department. The cash was meant for distribution to the voters. Replying to a question on this, Mr Sahoo said he would send the report from Income-Tax about the seizures made to the CEC, who would take a final decision on it. This issue was also expected to figure during the meeting with Mr Sahoo. (UNI)
