IPS officer on poll duty fires in air, relieved from duty

Chennai, Mar 31 : A Haryana cadre police officer appointed as poll
observer was relieved from his duty after he fired in the air in front of the circuit house where he was staying at Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu in the wee hours of Sunday.
Reports received here said the IPS officer, Hemant Kalson, came out of his room at around 0100 hrs, took the gun of Armed Reserve Constable Manibalan, who was posted for his security, and fired nine rounds in the air, in a bid to check whether it was working.
District Election Officer M Vijayalakshmi informed about the incident to Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo in Chennai following which he was relieved from duty.
