Chennai, Mar 28 : The nomination papers of 932 candidates for the 39 Lok Sabha seats and 305 for 18 Assembly bypoll seats were found in order during scrutiny.
Polling for both the LS and the Assembly bypoll would be held on April 18.
Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo told the media on Thursday that of the total 1,587 nominations received for LS polls, 655 were rejected on scrutiny, while the papers of 932 candidates were found in order.
For the Assembly bypoll, he said a total of 518 candidates have filed their papers of which 213 were rejected, while the remaining 305 papers were found in order.
The exact number of candidates in fray would be known tomorrow after the withdrawals tomorrow. Mr Sahoo said so far 44 cases have been filed so far against various political parties for violation of the Model Code of Conduct, including 10 against DMK, nine against ruling AIADMK, three each against PMK and MNM, two against BJP and 17 against Independents.
He said till yesterday, the flying squad team have seized Rs 50.20 crore unaccounted cash from various parts of the state during vehicle and other checks, besides 223 kg gold and 346 kg silver. To a question, he said the Election Commission would take a final decision on allotting a common symbol for the AMMK led by TTV Dhinakaran. (UNI)
