PT leader Krishnaswamy in fray in Tenkasi


The Puthiya Tamizhagam, a Dalit party with base among the educated sub-caste of Pallars in southern Tamil Nadu announced on Sunday that its leader Dr K Krishnaswamy would contest the coming Lok Sabha election from Tenkasi reserved constituency in Tirunelveli district as an ally of the AIADMK-BJP front.

The party said that Dr Krishnaswamy would contest on an independent symbol and not on AIADMK’s Two Leaves.

Dr Krishnaswamy was member of Tamil Nadu Assembly for two terms from 1996 to 2001 and from 2011to 2016 . Both the times he got elected from Ottapidaram, which is part of the Tenkasi Lok Sabha constituency. However, he won in 1996 Janata Party ticket. He founded the PT in 1999 and got elected as leader of this party in 2011.

This time around, he will be facing a challenge from the DMK.
