Madurai, Mar 17 : Asserting that he would announce his decision on his strategy for the next month's Lok Sabha polls after one week, former Union Minister and expelled DMK leader M K Alagiri on Sunday said the DMK would face the same fate as it faced in the last elections.
Asked whom he would support in the LS polls, he told reporters at the airport here that he would disclose his strategy after one week. On DMK's prospects in the elections, he said he had already stated about it. On CPI(M)'s Lok Sabha candidate for Madurai seat S Venkatesan's proposal to meet him, Alagiri said, he would meet him as a matter of courtesy.
It may be recalled that Mr Alagiri, who was earlier suspended from the post of DMK South Zone Organisational Secretary and later expelled from party for openly opposing DMK's alliance with the DMDK in the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, had recently said that the DMK's prospects would be the same as in the last elections.
The DMK suffered a rout in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls losing all the seats it had contested along with minor allies like the VCK, MMK, IUML and Puthiya Tamizhagam. After the DMK withdrew support to the Congress-led UPA terming it as an 'ungrateful ally', the Congress went alone in 2014 and also came a cropper, failing to win even a single seat.
It may be recalled that ever since he has been expelled from the party, Mr Alagiri, who wields significant clout in the southern districts, has been keeping a low profile and his strategy was expected to play a key role in the outcome of April 18 polls, especially in the southern districts. (UNI)
