Chennai, Mar 17 : The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founded by sidelined AIADMK leader and V K Sasikala's nephew TTV Dhinakaran, on Sunday released the first list of candidates for the next month's Lok Sabha elctions and Assembly bypolls.
After winning the R K Nagar Assembly bypoll as an Independent, this elections would be first real test for Dhinakaran, who would be going alone in the polls. In a statement here, he said the party would contest in all the 40 Lok Sabha seats (39 in Tamil Nadu and the lone seat in Puducherry) and the Assembly bypolls to 18 seats.
Announcing the first list of candidates for 24 LS seats, Dhinakaran also nominated disqualified AIADMK MLAs for the nine assembly seats where bypolls would be held.
In the Lok Sabha polls, the AMMK, which would be facing a full fledged elections for the first time, would contest from Tiruvallur (R), South Chennai, Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram (R), Villuppuram (R), Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruppur, Nilgiris (R), Coimbatore, Pollachi, Karur, Trichy, Perambalur, Chidambaram (R), Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam (R), Sivaganga, Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi (R).
Prominent among them was the nomination of former Mayor Ms Sarubala R Thondaiman for Trichy seat and former Minister Dr Isakki Subbiah for South Chennai. For the Assembly bypolls, Mr Dhinakaran nominated his loyalists and disqualified AIADMK MLAs for the nine seats, won by them in 2016.
They include P Vetrivel (Perambur), M Kothandapani (Tiruporur), T A Elumalai (Poonamallee), R Murugan (Harur), S. Mariappan Kennedy (Manamadurai), C Jayanthi Padmanabhan (Gudiyattam), R Balasubramani (Ambur), Ethirkottai S G Subramanian (Sattur), S Muthiah (Paramakudi). (UNI)
