The Communist Party of India (CPI), an ally of the DMK in the coming Lok Sabha elections, has announced two senior leaders for the Tiruppur and Nagapattinam seats. It has fielded former MP and MLA K Subbarayan in Tiruppur, his home town and put up former MLA M Selvaraj from Nagapattinam.
Subbarayan, who lost to the BJP in 1998 and 1999 shifted to Coimbatore and won in 2004 as part of the DMK-Congress led UPA. Earlier, he served as MLA for Tiruppur for two terms from 1984 to 89 and again from 1996 to 2001.
Selvaraj got elected to the Lok Sabha from Nagapattinam ( R) in 1989, 1996 and 98. Thereafter, the DMK won three successive Lok Sabha elections from 1999 till 2009. It lost to the AIADMK in 2014.
The two leaders, accompanied the State secretary of the CPI R Mutharasan, called on DMK president and leader of the alliance M K Stalin on Saturday and thanked him.
