Pollachi sex scam: More videos link AIADMK man


As the Crime Branch CID on Wednesday took over the investigation into the Pollachi sex scandal from the local police, four more videos went viral in the town showing expelled AIADMK functionary M Nagaraj alias”Bar” Nagarajan’s involvement.

Angry youths ransacked a TASMAC bar he was running in the town and went to the Pollachi DSP’s office demanding his arrest in the main case along with four other accused.

Immediately after the scandal broke out, the police arrested Nagarajan and three of his associates in a separate case on the charge of intimidating a complainant and her brother and he came out in bail immediately though the AIADMK expelled him from the party.

Just one video, showing a girl in slack shirt and trousers up against the wall and covering her with both arms and screaming in fright as the tormentors shoot videos, shocked the collective psyche of the people of Tamil Nadu much like the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi.

Four more videos surfaced on Wednesday and the local youth exploded in anger and smashed Nagarajan’s bar and marched on the police to demand his arrest in the main case. Pollachi DSP Jayaraman assured them that none would be spared.

They youth said the new videos showed the involvement not just school and college girls, but also married women in the scandal which was believed have been going on for some years now.

A top Crime Branch CID official told reporters in Pollachi that he had taken charge of documents, including phone records from the local police and would conduct a thorough probe with the help of two senior women officers who had been drafted for this. Meanwhile, Pollachi sub- collector indirectly referred to the agitation launched by DMK Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi in the town and said that prior permission was needed as the model code of conduct had come into effect.

He also said the complainant and her brother had given a signed statement to him, expressing satisfaction on the progress in the investigation in which the four main accused- Thirunavakarasu, Sabarirajan, Satish and Vasanthkumar—had been detained under the Goondas Act for a year. He also warned the media against revealing the identity of the 19-year-old girl, It was district superintendent of police Pandiarajan who revealed her name.

Kanimozhi wondered whether it was a deliberate attempt to silence other victims. She also said the SP on his own said there was no evidence to show involvement of political leaders when the investigation was still underway

Meanwhile, college boys and girls in Pollachi rallying under the Student Federation of India held a demonstration demanding stern action against the culprits. Similar agitations were held by other colleges in Chennai, Tiruchi, , Thanjavur , Dindigul, Karaikudi, Thoothukudi and any other towns and cities.
