Assembly elections would be held in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal along with the Lok Sabha polls according to schedules drawn up for them, Chief Election Commissioner Anil Arora announced on Sunday.
He said this while releasing the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections at a press conference in New Delhi. But assembly elections would not be held along with the Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir in view of the security situation.
Explaining its move, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said, "We will have to carry out 3 phases of election for just 1 constituency of Anantnag... so you can imagine how complicated it is."
Asked why elections were being held in two phases for 28 seats in Karnataka, while it was being held on a single day for 39 seats from Tamil Nadu and the lone Puducherry seats, he said holding of elections depended on availability of security forces and their transportation.
