TN seeks Param Vir Chakra for Abhinandan

The Tamil Nadu government has requested the Government of India to confer Param Vir Chakra, the nation’s highest military honour, on Indian Air Force fighter pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varathman.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami,in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Abhinandan deserves the award “ for displaying inimitable gallantry and valour” in shooting down an intruding F16 and “showing amazing poise and confidence” when landing in Pakistan custody after his MiG21 Bison crashed into the other side of the border.

Palanisami noted that Pakistan released Abhinandan on March 1 thanks to diplomatic initiative taken by Modi and intense international pressure.

Modi has already said Abhinandan has done, not just Tamil Nadu from where he hails, but the entire country proud.
