Tiruvallur police have found a skeleton, school uniform and some trinkets in a farmland near Tirutani. They have identified it is the skeletal remains of a schoolgirl who went missing in September last year.
The skeleton was found by farm labourers in a sugarcane field which is close to a l this girl was studying. The police said the victim was 15-year-old Saritha who went missing in September last year while on way to school. Her parents confirmed her identity from school uniform, a pair of anklets and earrings found at the site.
Police said that Saritha used to take a short cut through the field to reach her school. Her friends who walked ahead of her realised only later that she had gone missing. Her parents then lodged a missing person complaint with the local police.
Police suspect it to be a case of rape and murder. Further investigation is on.
