Chennai, Feb 8 : The Tamil Nadu government will establish a new Government Arts and Science College at Rameswaram and it would be named after former President A P J Abdul Kalam, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who also holds the Finance portfolio, told the State Assembly on Friday.
Rameswaram is the home town of the late President. Presenting the state budget for the year 2019-20, he said the government continues to give priority to ensuring access and affordability of higher education to all sections of the society.
He said the state has established three new Government Polytechnic Colleges during the academic year 2018-19 and granted permission for 29 self-financing colleges. 'I am glad to announce that the government will establish a new Government Arts and Science College this year at Rameswaram during 2019-20, which will be named after Dr A P J Abdul Kalam', he added.
