Disqualified Minister quits

Tamil Nadu Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Balakrishna Reddy resigned on Monday within hours of being disqualified from membership of the State Assembly following his conviction in a criminal case.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami forwarded his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit who accepted it.A Raj Bhavan press release said Reddy’s portfolio had been given to School Education K A Sengottayan.

Reacting to the development, AIADMK spokesperson Gokila Indira said it was unfortunate as his conviction related to a criminal case registered in 1998 when he was not even in the AIADMK.  Subsequently, he was admitted into the AIADMK by late general secretary J Jayalalitha and was made a Minister in 2016 after he won from Hosur near Bengaluru which always returned national parties like the Congress and the Janata Dal.
