Chennai, Dec 11: Seeking to know whether the Opposition now has belief in EVMs, the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP on Tuesday demanded an apology from them for blaming the EVMs in the BJP's victory.
Reacting to the election results in the BJP-ruled states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, where the Congress was inching ahead of the saffron party, BJP State President Ms Tamilisai Soundararajan said whenever the Opposition parties win they say that the EVMs were fine.
'But if the BJP wins, they blame it on errors in EVM', she said, and sought to know whether the Opposition parties now have belief in the EVMs. She also demanded an apology from the Opposition parties for demeaning the BJP's victory.
About the BJP suffering setbacks in the Assembly polls, Ms Tamilisai said the outcomes reflected the state issues. 'The BJP did not suffer a worst defeat...we have given a tough fight in all the
seats', she told reporters. Stating that the election results in Telangana has defeated the notion that
coalition would win, she referred to the yesterday's meeting of Opposition party leaders in New Delhi, chaired by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, against the BJP-led NDA, and said it would not give them victory.
'The fact the the coalition will not win is proved in Telangana (where TRS is all set to retain power', Ms Tamilisai said. Attributing the BJP's defeat in the Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to state issues, she said she saw it as the beginning of the BJP's victory in the Lok Sabha polls due in five to six months time.
