Karunas seeks to move resolution in TN Assembly to remove Speaker

Chennai, Oct 3: Hardening his stance, actor-politician and MLA of the ruling AIADMK Karunas on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretary seeking to move a resolution to remove Speaker P Dhanapal from the post.

In the two-page letter, fringe political outfit Mukulathor Puli Padai founder, Karunas, who was elected from Tiruvadanai constituency under the AIADMK's 'Two Leaves' symbol in the 2016 Assembly polls, accused the Speaker of acting in a biased manner.

Karunas, who was admitted to a hospital following complaints of chest pain, sent the letter to Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan through his advocates. He said he intended to move the resolution in the State Assembly to remove the Speaker by invoking Rule 68 of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly

rules under Article 179 (C) of the Constitution by giving 14 day notice period. He also requested the secretary to include it on the list of business for the leave of the House to move the resolution to remove Mr Dhanapal from the post of Speaker.

The latest move by Karunas, who has off late become an acerbic critic of the government, comes in the back drop of reports of discussions within the ruling AIADMK to issue a show cause notice to him as to why he should not be disqualified for supporting rebel leader and AMMK Founder T T V Dhinakaran, who is also the nephew of expelled leader V K Sasikala.
