Pondy MLA protests as Governor cuts him short

All India Anna DMK legislator of Puducherry K Anbaghazhan got into a verbal duel with Lt Governor Kiran Bedi after she cut short his speech at a Gandhi Jayanthi function on Tuesday.

The incident, caught on camera, after Anbazhagan took on the Governor on her claim that the Union Territory had become open defecation free under her administration. He said while that may be so, conservancy workers are underpaid and overworked.

What irked the Lt Governor was not what the opposition MLA said, but he went on and on despite her repeated cues to cut it short. After he went on for nearly half hour, Bedi went up to him and cut off his microphone

An outraged Anbazhagan engaged her in a verbal spat on the dais as stunned Congress Ministers on the dais looked on.

With folded hands, Bedi told him,” Please go so the function can go on”. Anbazhagan shot back:’ Why should I go? You go”.

Finally, Congress Ministers persuaded Anbazhagan to leave and the function concluded shortly thereafter.

Talking to reporters, Anbazahagan said it was an insult to the people who elected him. He said that unlike him, Bedi had become Lt Governor through the backdoor after losing the election to the Delhi Assembly.

He said he would take up this issue with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy who is also in charge of the Puducherry unit of the party.

Little will come out of it as the Edappadi Government itself is playing second fiddle to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
