New CJ of Madras HC sworn in

Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani was sworn Chief Justice of the Madras High Court by Governor Banwarilal Purohit at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan on Sunday evening.

It was attended by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy, Deputy O Pannerselvam and other Ministers ,outgoing Chief Justice Indira Banerjee, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court, and judges of the high court, besides Chief Justice Girija Vaidyanathan.

Born in 1958, Justice Tahilramani started practice in the Bombay High Court as well as City Civil and Sessions courts in Mumbai, after enrolling in the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in 1982.

She was elevated as a judge of the Bombay High Court in 2001 and she later served as its acting Chief Justice.
