Kauvery allows visitors of other patients as Karunanidhi is in for a long stay

As the round- the- clock treatment of DMK president and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi entered the fifth day today, the Kauvery Hospital started allowing visitors of other patients in a business as usual gesture.

This followed a bulletin it issued on Tuesday night which said Karunanidhi would have to be in hospital for an extended period as there has been an age-related overall decline in his health, It also said the liver of the 94-year DMK patriarch had been affected and the blood count was being monitored.

When late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha was in Apollo Hospitals for 75 days, the entire second floor was kept reserved for her and her close aides like Sasikala and IAS officer Sheila Balakrishnan and other patients were shifted to its other facilities in the city in the initial phase. This was because Jayalalitha was in the Z Plus category security and was under the proximity cover of black cat commandos.

Though Karunanidhi is also under security cover, it is not visible and he has always been accessible to visitors and party men. This tradition is being continued by his son and DMK working president M K Stalin who has allowed top leaders like Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Congress president Rahul Gandhi to visit the ICU ward and see for themselves the condition of Karunanidhi.

He also released photographs of these leaders with Karunanidhi, to reassure anxious cadres that his condition was stable. In a statement, Stalin appealed to the cadres not to take any extreme step like suicide as” you are a pillar of strength to the party”

Tamil film’s super star Rajini Kanth visited the hospital on Tuesday night and met Karunanidhi’s sons Stalin and Azhagiri to convey his best wishes.

He told reporters:” I could not see Karunanidhi as he was asleep. I consoled his relatives. All I can do is pray for his recovery”.

Popular film star Vijay visited the hospital on Wednesday morning and met Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi who is dabbling in films, to convey his best wishes.
