High drama was witnessed in Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence following the sudden setback in his health and thousands of grieving cadres gathered there as he was rushed n an ambulance to the emergency ward to the hospital which is nearby.
Besides his son and DMK working president M K Stalin, his estranged Madurai-based brother M K Azhagiri, step-sister Kanimozhi and top party functionaries including DMK organizing secretary Durai Murugan and former Union Minister A Raja gathered at the residence. They also accompanied him to the hospital where Karunanidhi’s second wife and Kanimozhi’s mother Rajathi also joined them.
As Karunanidhi is over 94 and he has age-related ailments, such setbacks in health can be expected though a panel of doctors monitored his health at home round the clock.
