A decision on contesting polls at the right time: Rajini

S.Murari

Actor turned politician Rajini Kanth said today that he would take a call on contesting elections at the right time.

In a brief interaction with the media here, he parried a question as to whether he would contest elections. He said,” I’ll take a call when the time comes”.

A reporter pointed out that his contemporary Kamal Hassan had already launched his political party and asked him when he would become a full-time politician as he was still busy acting in films. He just laughed.

Pressed further whether his party would take part in the Lok Sabha elections due in 2019, he said”there is still time to take a call”

Refused to comment on BJP national president Amit Shah’s comment during a visit to Chennai that corruption had become all-pervasive in Tamil Nadu, he said ”that is his viewpoint and I have nothing to say on that”.

He also welcomed the recently passed bill by the Tamil Nadu Assembly to form Lokayukta and said it should be headed by a retired high court judge to make strong and effective.

Replying to another question, he said the standards of education in Tamil Nadu was far better than in some other States and the concerned Ministers were doing a good job.

Rajini welcomed the Modi Government’s plan for simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and State Assembly on the basis of “one nation, one vote”. He said frequent elections cost huge money. They will also detract the attention of politicians who will tend to ignore the people and concentrate on polls, he said.

Replying to opposition to the Chennai-Salam highway from farmers who may lost land their lands , he said:” Such mega projects needed for development and they also create jobs. At the same time, when they are executed, some farmers may be affected by takeover of their land. The Government should suitably compensate them by cash or by giving land elsewhere”.

Rajini called the press to announce that he had decided to adopt a young boy who returned to police a huge amount of money found on the road. The boy wished to meet Rajini. He therefore called him home. He said”I have decided to adopt the boy and take care of his education”
