Chandigarh, May 3 : Haryana Police has arrested 1054 proclaimed offenders (POs), bail jumpers and hardened criminals during a special month-long drive concluded on April 20.
Announcing this here on Friday, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Navdeep Singh Virk said that catch of 1054 accused, include 422 POs, 582 bail jumpers and 50 hardened criminals. During this period, police have also seized 243 illegal pistols, 324 cartridges, 15 knives and 200 gram gun powder from the possession of arrested accused involved in robbery, loot, burglary, snatching and other heinous crimes.
He said the crackdown which began on March 20 is part of a special drive to ensure free, fair and incident-free Lok Sabha elections in the state. “Intensifying effort to check the crime graph, we have achieved desired result in nabbing the criminals, POs and bail jumpers and it has been possible due to dedication and hard work done by the police personnel, he added.
Divulging the details about the arrest, the ADGP said that out of the total, 360 POs, 468 bail jumpers and 50 hardcore criminals were apprehended by the various units of district Superintendents of Police and DCPs whereas 62 POs and 114 bail jumpers were nabbed by a team of State Crime Branch.
Mr Virk said that maximum numbers of 46 POs were arrested in district Faridabad followed by 38 in Nuh and 33 in Sonipat. Similarly, Rohtak district on the top with the arrest of 57 bail jumpers followed by 53 each in Faridabad and Karnal and 33 in Sonipat. With regard to the arrest of hardcore criminals, 8 persons were apprehended in Ambala, 7 in Jhajjar and 6 in Rewari during this period.
Apart from tightening the noose on those involved in illegal activities, efforts are being made to trace and nab the other notorious and most wanted criminals in the state, he added. (UNI)
