Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate of Police have prosecuted 140 persons and collected fine from 230 People for bursting crackers before 2000 hours and after 2200 hours on Diwali on Wednesday, violating Supreme Court order.
The Supreme Court in its orders had banned the bursting of crackers before 2000 hours and after 22 hours in a bid to check the rising level of pollution.
Commissionerate of Police sources here said though the Apex Court’s order was widely displayed in social, electronic and print media still some people burst crackers before and after the stipulated period.
It said while 140 people were prosecuted u/s 5 of the Fire Works and Loud Speakers (Regulation ) Act 1958 , a sum of Rs 1.15 lakh fine was collected from 230 people under section 28/96 of the Odisha Urban Police Act. (UNI)
