Divya Iyer’s decision was incorrect, says Collector

A report submitted by the Trivandrum District Collector has found that the decision by Divya S Iyer when she was a Sub collector at Trivandrum to transfer 27-cents of government land at Varkala to a private individual was incorrect. In the report, the Collector also directed the Revenue officials to take over the land occupied illegally by the private person.

As per the Collector’s order, the revenue officials will conduct a land resurvey to measure the controversial land to take over the government land from encroachment. Government officials will also update the High Court about the latest development.

After the controversial decision, Divya S Iyer, the then Thiruvananthapuram Sub Collector and the wife of Sabarinathan MLA, has been transferred as deputy secretary, Local Self Government department. Earlier, the Land Revenue Commissioner had also found that Divya S Iyer made a wrong decision.

When the controversy erupted, Varkala MLA V. Joy had also come down heavily against Divya S Iyer and petitioned the Revenue Minister and the Chief Minister against the Sub Collector's decision, alleging that she took an arbitrary decision to hand over the land which belonged to the Revenue Department. When the former Minister and Congress leader Sabarinathan, who is also the husband of Divya S Iyer, came out heavily against the MLA V.Joy had lent a political hue to the controversy.

It is learnt that the District Collector’s current report will seal all the controversy forever. The District Collector has now submitted the report after hearing all the parties involved in the controversy including Divya S. Iyer.
